The American Legion Department of Michigan and The Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians have partnered together to create a Tribal Veteran Service Officer position to serve the Native American Veteran community in Upper Peninsula Michigan.
The American Legion provides the knowledge, training, resources, and infrastructure needed to assist veterans filing claims with the U.S. Veterans Administration. The Sault Tribe is providing funding, and office locations to a Tribal Veteran Service Officer.
The American Legion is currently accepting applications for a Full-Time Tribal Veteran Service Officer. The applicant must be an honorably discharged veteran and a member of the Sault Tribe. The TVSO will provide community outreach, file claims to the veteran’s administration for the veteran or family member and serve as a liaison to various state and federal veteran programs. This position will also coordinate services between the nine Tribal Health Clinics.
The starting salary for this position would be $18 per hour with a schedule of 40 hours per week. Also included is pay for mileage at the federal rate, along with full-time benefits to include healthcare and 401k.
